Jenna Arend shares her motivation for transferring colleges and the secrets behind her crystal clear skin.
Dote: You made the tough decision to transfer from Cal State San Marcos to Arizona State's online program. What can you share about that decision? Jenna: To answer this simply, I was going through so much at the time and I knew in my heart that I was not supposed to be in San Marcos. From disliking the staff and professors at the school, to rarely having classes (they were always cancelled), and even roommates bullying me, I knew I needed to get myself out in order to be happy and successful. CSUSM also did not have my preferred major, that ASU actually offers. The ASU online program is phenomenal, and I have multiple different advisors and success coaches that make me feel like family.
Dote: Did you make a decision about whether or not you’ll be moving to Arizona in the fall? Jenna: I came to the conclusion in March that I will be moving out to Arizona in a few weeks. I was able to get all set up when I visited in March. I am now able to focus on my degree and cater it to exactly what I want to do: Broadcast & Sports Journalism. Though it is going to be a huge culture shock since I have been doing homework from my bed for months and now I have to go to class, in a whole different state!
Dote: Do you have any productivity secrets for juggling college with being such an active creator? Jenna: I am super big on writing everything down. I have 2 calendars to keep me organized and I love using different pens and markers to help organize and prioritize all my jobs for the week. I honestly feel like I have been slacking off, but I am doing my best to get back in the swing of things!
Dote: You have aspirations to be a broadcast journalist—tell us why! Jenna: After being told by so many people that I am “so good in front of the camera,” I figured that broadcast journalism would be a great career for me. Not only am I comfortable in front of a camera, but I actually enjoy it a whole lot. I think that having it as a career would be less of a job and more of a fun activity that I can also get paid to do. With youtube and past sportscasting experience, it is a comfortable and fun field to pursue.
Dote: What’s been your favorite part of summer 2019 so far? Jenna: I think my favorite part of Summer ‘19 is the fact that it is the complete opposite of Summer ‘18. Last year, I was in a relationship and had zero social life at all. I swear, the key to success for me right now is being single. I have been hanging out with a couple new friend groups this summer and I swear I am doing something all day and all night… EVERY SINGLE DAY. I swear I’ve never been so exhausted from having so much to do, but that’s the fun in it!
Dote: Word on the street is you have a bit of an obsession with The Bachelor franchise. Who do you think Hannah B will pick and why? Any guesses for who will be the next Bachelor? Jenna: Oh my gosh, I have been obsessed with The Bachelor franchise since 2010 when Ali was the Bachelorette. I was really hoping Hannah would pick Tyler C., because he is FINE, but I am pretty sure she picks Jed, even with all the drama that came out about his ex girlfriend. I am hoping ‘Pilot Pete,’ or Tyler get to be the next Bachelor… too bad I am not old enough to audition, because I’d take either of them!
Dote: Now that you’re in college, what’s one thing you wish you could tell your younger self? Jenna: I wish I could tell my younger self to stop stressing over a couple poor grades on a few tests. I would be so hard on myself for not getting an A on every test or quiz. Though I kept a solid 4.0 pretty much all of high school, there was still so much unnecessary stress. You don’t need to keep perfect scores on everything, you will still get into college!
Dote: Who’s currently your favorite dote follow? Jenna: I love following one of my good friends, JaidynLynzee. Not only are we super good friends in real life, but we have very similar tastes in styles, so everything I see from her on my feed, I always need to buy too!
Dote: What’s the one thing you never leave home without? Jenna: I can never leave without my purse. I always have everything I need in there: my sunglasses, phone, portable charger, chapstick, wallet, toothpicks, and Advil.
Dote: What’s your song of summer? Jenna: If I had to choose ONE, it would be do u even miss me at all? by Gianni & Kyle. It’s the perfect mix I can vibe out to in the car, but I can also dance to it as well.
Dote: You have such gorgeous skin. What’s your skincare routine? Jenna: I use a lot of Hebe Skin Health products, from face wash to masks. I also try and get a blackout laser facial or a hydrafacial frequently to keep my skin clear and smooth! Nothing too crazy, right?!
Dote: What or who inspires you the most as a creator and why? Jenna: Honestly I have so much respect for David Dobrik. His drive and work ethic is insane. I don’t know if I could ever post multiple times a week and have it be good content. I am a quality over quantity person, and I always film and then hate the videos and do not want to post them at all… but David Dobrik has quality and quantity covered for, and THAT is inspiring.
Dote: What’s your favorite book and why? Jenna: This is a hard one… I am not a big reader, but I enjoy reading crime stories after watching a documentary.
Dote: What’s your favorite family tradition? Jenna: On Easter when I was a kid, my Ampee (my grandpa) would hide quarters instead of eggs, and we would also dye eggs a week or so before. After my Ampee died, we still follow these traditions every year, which I always enjoy.
Dote: What’s your favorite clothing brand on dote? Jenna: I am obsessed with ordering from Lulus and Princess Polly when shopping on Dote. Both brands have really cute stuff and they make for great Instagram pictures!!
Dote: What’s something your followers might not know about you? Jenna: Something my followers may not know about me is that I have a weird fascination with cemeteries, and so does my family. When we travel to a new place and there is a historic cemetery, we all have to go check it out. I can’t even explain it, but it is just so peaceful and looking at old headstones is interesting.
